ahhh summer is here and a lot of you guys out there have finally finished school & exams so you got lots of free time in your hands (like meeeeeee …. kinda, LOL
)!! That sounds GREAT doesn’t it?? BUT doesn’t it happen to you as well, that all that free time you’ve wished for sooooo badly during the winter, has turned your life into something boring?
Do you find yourself wasting time away on the chat program, lounging around the house being annoyed or just … sleep? Fear not!! Here are some ideas! ![]()
- Go Out – Unless you live in lovely Aussie (in which case, you’ve already had your fair share of lovely weather! Now it’s our turn teehee
), your summery days should be filled with bright warm sunny days! And what better way to celebrate your days off than go out? Picnics, spending the whole day at the Beach, out to the Local Bar for cocktails, Barbecues, Discos & Nightclubs, some Open Air Winebar or Restaurant, or just take a nice long walk out! Don’t know of any new places?? NONSENSE! Google is your best friend and it’s going to give you tonnes of suggestions i’m sure!!
- Get a (summer) job – Might be teeny bit too late now as most of the best jobs are already taken – but neverrr fear! Buy all the local newspapers, check online websites, go around shops & companies you’d like to work at & distribute your CV! Getting a summer job will guarantee that not only you’ll get a great experience (new friends, coworkers, learning new skills etc) but you’ll also earn a little extra which always helps!

- Play Video Games – Use this option WISELY. Spending your whole time inside playing video games all summer might be a bit … urgh. But catching up on your favourite games every now and then is more than awesome, or better yet – invite some friends over and make a LAN Party or a Play Station Tournament!!
(Guitar Hero anyone??) - Meet Old Friends – Do you have the feeling that you might have neglected your friends because of study? Or you haven’t seen someone in AGES!?? Now’s the time to pick up that phone, cellphone, email, and get contacting them!!
It’s a bit hard until you get the ball rolling, but i’m sure they’ll be as thrilled to hear that you’re still alive as well!
- Read Books / Magazines – Honestly, i think one of the best past times in the world is to read a book. There’s nothing better you can do for your mind than feeding it precious knowledge (& getting a wider vocabulary!)
– hey, you’ll also make a good impression at difficult conversations where you can impress people with what you’ve learned, no?? Hahaha – or is it that just me??
Get yourself a Shelfari account (hey, add me!!) and get searching for the books that suit you – you’re just bound to find that book which will capture you. Go to the local library, buy your stuff off Amazon! Just get reading, do your brain a favor!! You’ll thank me later
- Watch what you’ve lost on the telly during the winter – Another option which might backfire if not used wisely
Have you missed Gossip Girl or the latest season of the L Word on tv? Have you always wanted to watch the Mighty Boosh? … Yupp, i know i do!
I limit myself to 1 or 2 episodes per day, no more, that way i can have some time for other more important activities
- Learn Something – Only for those who love to continue learning like myself. I know the VAST MAJORITY just wants to get away from learning & let their minds get lazy for 3 months
I only remember of TWO Summers in my life in which i haven’t done some sort of short course. It doesn’t have to be academically related – you can even learn a new trade or hobby! Local councils here tend to have artisan courses available mostly for women who are interested in learning old antique crafts
& what about a sport class? Ever wanted to learn a new sport but don’t want to do it alone? Why not register at a yoga or tai chi class?? Look around your town, i’m sure you’ll find something as well!!
- Do something out of the oridinary – Go diving, go bungee jumping, travel around your country in a bus, go on a roadtrip without a specific destination, go hiking and exploring in some remote part, rent a boat and go sailing for a day, organize a costume themed picnic, throw a party! … An infinite list of things to do!
- Start your own Website – For those who do not have a website but always wished one, this is the perfect time to start!
Look around for tutorials, ask other webmasters (most of them are always willing to help!), & get coding!! - Revamp your website – This might be the time to give your blog / website a good facelift! & you know what good change means?? Yes! MORE VISITORS!! Is there something your website lacks?? Investigate around … you’re bound to find something to improve and get your hands full.
- Do something new everyday – Try a new way how to cook, taste some exotic food, try a new Bar, haul yourself to the hairdresser and get a new hairdo, change your wardrobe, learn a new fact a day, find a new source of inspiration, find a new interesting website, make a new friend, chat with a stranger, try new exercises or a new sport!
I’m still in the process or compiling my Summer 2008 to-do list! Hope i inspired some of you out there to include some of my suggestions in yours!! What do you want to do this summer & make it great & memorable??? ![]()

Those are some great tips. Espescially the going out thing. In the summer I try to spend as much time possible outside. In a place like Sweden with such long cold winters I think all summer should be spent enjoying the sun and warmth as much as possible! I think it’s great to just bring a book and sit down in the grass.
Learning something can also be done outside. Like going to those free summer gymnastics hours arranged in most big cities.

These ideas already seem like common knowledge, but I think that one’s laziness (*cough* like mine *cough) can get in the way. The last one seems pretty interesting, since there isn’t much new in my house. And if only I was old enough to get a summer job…
UsingJune 23rd, 2008 @ 9:07 pm
This Summer I’m catching up with some books I should have managed my way through by now. I added you to my Shelfari friends.
UsingJune 25th, 2008 @ 1:39 pm
I’m gonna have to take some of that advice.
This is a stupid question but, how do I change my avatar on here? lol
UsingJune 25th, 2008 @ 10:39 pm
I often find myself being bored during the summer but honestly, I don’t mind it haha.
UsingI see summer as a time to relax, to get ready for the new school year.
I AM thinking about revamping my site but I just don’t know where to start. Any change would be too difficult. = =
June 27th, 2008 @ 8:11 am
