No matter what your style – you ALWAYS have to carry a bag to work! Else, where would you keep your notes / laptop / and other handy stuff that you might need throughout the day? I used to carry with me all sorts of junk to work … stuff i barely used and ended up pretty much “rotting” inside the bag (not literally – i usually end up never using the item because of forgetting all about it!). One day i sat down and ran through what i REALLY need to take to live throughout a whole 8hrs at the office & here’s what i carry with me today:
wallet x vitaminB6 pills (need to take them as my gynae ordered!) x Aerosol spray (i’m a smell freak as well – NO WAY i’m going to smell like a farm no matter what temperature
!) x shopping list notebook + pen x umbrella x Moist tissues x mints x spare plastic bag (in case it’s raining and i want to protect my items from getting wet or i have something large to carry!) x make-up bag (sanitary towels by 2! x spare eyeliner x oil blotting paper x lip balms by 2 x spare hairbands x band aids x paracetamol tablets x pack of tissues) … & last but not least my own home-made lunch (3 small meals nicely packed in Tupperware!) …. yeah i have a pretty BIG BAG but now it’s always pretty much half empty!! ![]()
So what do you really need to do to strip down the contents of your bag just to the bare essentials?
- Sit down and forget all about the current contents of your bag
- Grab a pen and paper and start thinking of your day at work … what do you usually do? do you have any special events for the day? what emergencies might occur that you might need additional items for?
- Jot everything down
- Empty the contents of your bag
- Separate the items into two piles – the stuff you’ve jotted down and the stuff you didn’t!
- Place the contents you’ve listed in your bag and keep the others at home … probably you’ll end up with half of the contents you’ve started up with!!
… so how does the content of your bag improve your day at work??
- For one thing – having a less heavy bag to carry around between meetings really helps your back out a LOT!
- What if your bag is so heavy that it might cause the strap to break?! Congrats! By minimizing your content you’ve just improved the lifetime of your bag!
- If you really have an emergency – you don’t need to go sifting through loads of piles of rubbish just to get the item you need
- & lastly – if you tend to leave your bag alone at the office or in another place (or if you fall asleep on your way to work!) having less stuff means that if something is stolen or tampered with, you’ll loose much much less

… So what do you girls & boys like to keep in your work / school bag? What’s the most essential item that you’ll never leave out of the house without?

,

Haha, yeah, it scared me too. I screamed soo hard the first time I saw it. xP
Hmm….I would probably take your advice about carrying my bag around. If I hadn’t last the *counts in head* about 10 bags I last had XD I’ll keep some of your advice in mind

Hiya Stef! I’m glad your back from your hiatus. At least you got your work done. ^__^
I have exams coming up so I always find I get too busy to blog.
Those tips were really helpful, I’m going to have to try them out. I was just complaining today about how heavy my bag seems so your blog came at the right time. haha
I usually carry a folder in my bag, paper, pencil case, make up case, purse, glasses, umbrella and a diary. One thing I can’t leave the house without is my phone, I just feel lost if I don’t have it!
xx

Wow that was really cool. I always bring way to much rubbish to work and college. I really just need to sit down and think about it.
Gotta have a book, notepad and pencil though. Always.
Shola s last blog post .. Money makes the world go round.

Dear god X__X That’s a lot of stuff. My schoolbag only contained the needed books, my school diary, pencilcase, calculator, my wallet, cellphone, and lunch (which I always tend to forget anyway XD).
Even my normal purse for when I go out or something only contains my wallet and cellphone. Perhaps I should start to gather a bit more stuff. After all, I do have a makeupbag now XD

You’re just like me when it comes to packing the bag it seems. I think I carry with me about as much stuff as you do.
I did a “what’s in my bag” post a couple of months ago and this is it: http://www.whirlwind.nu/images/journal_080925_inmybag.jpg I’ve added a keystrap, headset, hairband and a plastic spoon to the content since that photo was taken.

Since I use a different bag/purse for every different outfit I wear, so I decide the day before I go out what I need to bring the next day, haha. Very time consuming, but I hate using the same bag twice in a row, LOL.
And I can’t remember if I mentioned this already, but THANK THE DEEP DEPTHS OF HELL that you’re back from your Hiatus! You almost began to rival the lengths of my own Hiatuses there … I was starting to worry I wouldn’t be a special snowflake anymore! ;____;

UsingMay 11th, 2009 @ 5:39 am
i love to plan beforehand what stuff i’m going to wear & what bag to take
(most of the time it’s really easy to just empty one bag and dump everything in another!!)
…. how long was your longest hiatus then?
(i think it was 3 months or something when you had the HUGE website upside-down wordpress update change?)
